Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Monday that China had congratulated Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his reelection and was ready to deepen cooperation with Brazil, Anadolu Agency reported.

Guo said China respected the Brazilian electorate’s choice. He said Beijing was prepared to promote what he called a “community with a shared future” between the two countries, Anadolu reported.

Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) said Lula won 51.79% of valid votes in the Oct. 25 runoff, while Flávio Bolsonaro received 48.21%. The TSE’s final tally gave Lula 64,256,232 votes and Bolsonaro 59,826,041, according to EconoTimes’ earlier report on the final runoff count.

Lula’s victory secured him a fourth presidential term, making him the first Brazilian politician to win four terms, Anadolu reported. He previously served from 2003 to 2010 and returned to the presidency in 2023, according to TSE records.
