AI Must Serve All Nations, Not Just the Wealthy, Xi Declares
While attending the Group of Twenty Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a statement that artificial intelligence should not be a "game of rich countries and the wealthy," according to a report that was published by the state-run news agency Xinhua on Monday.
As reported by Xinhua (via Reuters), Xi also urged for increased international oversight and collaboration on artificial intelligence.
In the latter part of the day, Xi Jinping emphasized China's support for the developing countries and committed to undertaking additional aid programs.
China Pushes for Collaboration to Aid Global South
According to US News, among these initiatives, he proposed a collaboration with three other members of the G20 to assist the Global South in gaining improved access to scientific and technology advancements.
When the Chinese leader was speaking at a session on the reform of global governance institutions, he cautioned against the practice of protectionism in the name of environmentally friendly and low-carbon development.
Xi Criticizes Green Tariffs on Chinese Products
There is a reference to tariffs that have been levied on Chinese products such as electric vehicles and biodiesel by members of the G20, which include the United States of America, Canada, and the European Union.
