Coinbase, a San Francisco-based bitcoin company, has announced support for buying bitcoin with 3D Secure-enabled credit and debit cards for users located in the UK and Spain. 3D Secure enables two-factor authentication for making purchases with credit and debit cards.
This is expected to simplify the process of purchasing bitcoins. The company said that once the users have an eligible credit/debit card, they will be able to select this payment option to instantly purchase bitcoin in GBP or EUR.
"Since credit and debit cards will not require a customer to pre-fund their Coinbase account with a bank transfer, customers in the UK and Spain can now receive bitcoin instantly." -Coinbase
It further said that 3D secure is supported by most banks in Europe and the United Kingdom. It advised the users to contact their financial institution to check whether their card supports 3D secure or else they could try adding it to their Coinbase account. The users will get an error message in case the card is not supported.
Coinbase is one of the leading bitcoin wallet and exchange with more than 3.8 million registered wallets and 2.4 million users.
