Three containers of Colombian frozen avocado arrived in Japan to be consumed by customers of the Burger King and 7-Eleven chains in that country.
Burger King has two new offerings with avocados, the Avocado Beef Whopper and Avocado Plant Whopper, while 7-Eleven has been selling the fruit in its stores in Tokyo, Saitama, and Kanagawa since March.
In a few months, the Colombian avocado will be available in all 7-Eleven stores in Japan.
Andres Orozco, the general manager of Colfrost, which processed the avocados, expects to reach 20,881 7-Eleven stores in Japan by May.
The Avocados is sold frozen in various vacuum-packed formats, giving it a shelf life of up to two years without losing its flavor or properties.
Colombian avocado has been available in Japan since July 2019. Last year, Colombia exported $437,737 worth of fresh avocado in Japan. Colfrost expects its avocado exports to Japan to reach $4 million this year.
