Ever woken up to water on the toilet floor because of a running toilet? Or tried sleeping amidst
the constant dripping sound of a leaking faucet?
So annoying, right?
Now try having visitors, and your bathtub is clogged. So EMBARRASSING!
Every day, hundreds of calls are made to local plumbers everywhere with complaints of
plumbing issues that can easily be fixed at home without their assistance.
Some of these issues might seem minor, but if left unfixed, the damage caused in the long run
can be felt deep in the pocket.
A chat with Mateo, one of the local plumbers from Winchmore Hill Plumbing revealed the three most common plumbing problems and how you can quickly fix them.
Leaking faucets – the most common complaint made to Winchmore Hill Plumbing
The constant drip-drip-drip sound is annoyingly hard to ignore in the dead of night.
A leaking faucet is one slow ‘water waster’ and can cost you an extra 10% on the water bill!
These leaks are mostly as a result of malfunctioned washers on the tap.
To fix the leaking faucets, Mateo says, turn off the water, carefully disassemble the faucet
parts, pull off or cap the escutcheon and pull out the cartridge. Check the seals, O-rings, and
washers to confirm which is faulty. Replace the faulty part from any of the Winchmore Hill
repair stores and reassemble the faucet.
Slow or clogged sink and tub drains
Slow draining sinks and tubs are caused by a collection of debris and dirt. Things like hair, food
wastes, soap pieces, oils, grease, cotton swabs, fats – name it.
To unclog the drains, remove the drain stopper in the tub and clean it with a plunger then run
boiling water through the drain. This will soften the clog. For kitchen sinks, first run boiling
water down the drain then a handful of dish detergent then finally run more hot water down
the drain.
If this does not work, then contact a plumper from any Winchmore Hill Plumbing companies to
have a look at the drain pipe.
Running toilets
Knowing what and how to fix a running toilet will be determined by the cause.
The most common causes being; the flap at the bottom of the toilet tank not shutting well, the
ball float not balancing well or the fill tube having an issue. All these cause water from the tank
to overflow into the bowl.
Solution: Try jiggling the handle several times to see if the running will stop. If it does not, you
might need to replace the flapper, the Fill valve or the Flush valve. Check for all the three to
know which needs to be replaced. If you are unsure, any of the Winchmore Hill Plumbing
providers can help you out.
Using these tips, you can easily sort out your plumbing problems yourself before calling in the
experts.
