Agent Dave Rossi (Joe Mantegna) will be facing a personal tragedy in “Criminal Minds” season 14 episode 13 that might dictate his fate in the upcoming season finale. He is going to be attacked by an unsub who, for some reason, will evade the Behavioral Analysis Unit.
“Criminal Minds” season 14 episode 13 is titled “Chameleon” and it is most likely describing the unsub that Rossi and the team will be dealing with this week. Chameleons are known for its ability to change color as a mechanism to hide from predators. Applying that trait to a serial killer obviously means grave danger.
Rossi will have first-hand experience with that danger. The official synopsis for “Criminal Minds” season 14 episode 13 reveals he will be involved in “a near-death struggle” with the unsub.
CBS released a 10-second promo video for “Criminal Minds” season 14 episode 13 but it unlikely revealed the identity of the unsub. However, the video shows Rossi chasing someone at gunpoint in the woods. Emily (Paget Brewster) can also be heard telling him he “went through something terrible out there.”
In several instances in the “Criminal Minds” season 14 episode 13 preview, Rossi seems very disoriented. This lines up with the episode summary’s teaser that the veteran psychological profiler will doubt his next moves after encountering the serial killer.
Rossi’s brush with death will obviously cause him to suffer from trauma and, at this point, it is hard to tell just how fast he can recover from it. And after “Criminal Minds” season 14 episode 13, there are only two episodes left before the season ends.
If Rossi cannot clear his head from the tragic experience, he might not be able to protect himself from becoming a vulnerable target for whoever will cause the team harm in the cliffhanger finale. “Criminal Minds” season 14 episode 13 is directed by series regular A.J. Cook and will air on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
