“Criminal Minds” Season 15 will be the last installment for the police procedural drama as the ratings have significantly plummeted during its last run. As such, CBS has ordered only 10 episodes for the show.
While this may be heartbreaking news for the longtime followers of the series, showrunner Erica Messer said she’s still thankful that CBS gave them this opportunity to close the story for good. For now, Messer has yet to reveal details regarding the plotline of “Criminal Minds” Season 15, Express reported.
However, she did say that part of the story that they’ll be exploring is the budding romance between Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Jennifer (A.J. Cook). Now that Jen has confessed her love to Reid, the ball is on the autodidact’s court. “Criminal Minds” Season 15 will show fans how Reid will respond to Jen’s revelation, which will apparently be a huge part in the first few episodes of the next installment.
“We’re going to dive into that in the first two hours of [Criminal Minds Season 15] because we can’t leave everybody hanging and then pretend it didn’t happen. It’s definitely a huge driver for the first handful of episodes that will help add layers to those characters again,” Messer told TVLine.
While Reid has yet to reveal how he feels about Jen’s confession, there are hints out there pointing that he also –in some capacity – feels the same way. It can be recalled that Jen initially spilled her feelings to Reid when she was forced to by an UnSub. After the criminal was dealt with, Jen said that she only said those things to throw the UnSub off balance. But when Reid confronted her without a looming threat, her expression betrayed her words. And it’s this very confrontation of Reid that hints at the fact that he too has some feelings for his colleague. Whatever the case, fans of the series will know how this side plot will unfold once “Criminal Minds” Season 15 airs this coming autumn.
