Delta Air Lines announced on Sunday that it is operating a reduced flight schedule as severe winter weather continues to impact multiple regions across the United States. The airline said it is closely monitoring conditions in the Northeast and at its major Atlanta hub, where winter storm activity has already caused disruptions to air travel. Despite the challenging conditions, Delta emphasized that due to proactive schedule adjustments, its currently scheduled flights are operating as planned.
The ongoing winter storm has significantly disrupted U.S. air travel, leading to widespread flight cancellations, delays, and travel waivers from major airlines. Ice, snow, and strong winds are affecting key airports and regional hubs across the South, East, and central parts of the country. Delta confirmed that on Saturday it made additional flight cancellations in Atlanta and along the U.S. East Coast, including its hubs in Boston and New York, as winter storm Fern intensified.
Delta Air Lines stated that its operational teams are working around the clock to ensure passenger safety while minimizing disruptions where possible. The airline encouraged travelers to check flight status regularly and take advantage of flexible rebooking options offered during severe weather events. Travelers flying through impacted regions are advised to allow extra time at airports due to potential delays caused by de-icing procedures and reduced runway capacity.
The National Weather Service warned that a dangerous mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow could make travel hazardous across the Southeast. The storm is also expected to cause power outages and tree damage as it moves northward. Heavier snowfall is forecast in northern regions, increasing the likelihood of additional flight disruptions as the system progresses.
As winter weather continues to challenge airlines and travelers alike, Delta reiterated its commitment to safety and operational reliability. Passengers are urged to stay informed through official airline updates and weather alerts while planning travel during the ongoing winter storm.
