Democrats won control of both chambers in the Nov. 3 midterm elections, AP reported, with Senate Democrats holding at least 54 of 100 seats and their House majority above the 218 seats needed for control. Some races remained uncalled in AP’s Wednesday tally. The new Congress is due to take over in January.

CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin (BTC) dipped to roughly $75,700 amid early signs of a Democratic sweep before climbing back above $78,000. CoinDesk’s Wednesday update put Bitcoin near $78,300, nearly 1% higher on the day. XRP was up 1% at $1.27 in CoinDesk’s earlier report.

The House approved H.R. 3633, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, by a 294-134 vote in July 2025; on Sept. 15, 2026, 49 senators backed cloture on a motion to proceed to the bill, 50 opposed it and one did not vote. The tally addressed whether the motion could advance, not whether the bill would pass.

The bill would establish a framework for regulating the offer and sale of digital commodities. Whether the next Congress takes it up again remains unclear. In an Oct. 28 post, Zach Pandl, Grayscale’s head of research, wrote: “Elections can affect crypto on the margin, just like other asset classes.”
