‘Doctor Who’ season 10’s episode 2, titled “Smile,” is set to introduce the adorable yet ultimately evil emojibots. Bill is set to accompany the Doctor as they head to a city on a distant planet. However, they will shockingly find it devoid of colonists.
The short synopsis for episode 2 posted on TV Guide reads, “The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) takes Bill (Pearl Mackie) to a spectacular city on a distant planet, but find it bare of colonists.”
According to Cartermatt, “Smile” will take on the mystery hiding behind a seemingly perfect city in the far future at the edge of the galaxy. The human settlement was initially known for holding the secret to happiness. However, Doctor and Bill will find no living beings besides emojibots upon their arrival.
The upcoming episode was filmed at the City of Arts and Science Museum in Valencia, Spain last July, according to Radio Times. It was one of the first episodes to go into production.
Bill and the Doctor will be taking on the latest antagonists, the emojibots, in what seems to be one of the most fun episodes to date. Some photographs for “Smile” show the emojibots looking harmless but their screens, which serve as faces, also hint at something deadly.
Doctor seems amused with finding the emojibots in the distant planet but he and Bill will have to solve the mystery of a pile of grinning human skulls they find along the way. It was speculated that these technologically advanced killing machines murder people by hugging them to death.
‘Doctor Who’ season 10’s episode 2, titled “Smile,” is scheduled to be released on BBC on April 22, 2017. It was directed by Lawrence Gough and written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. It will be followed by episode 3, titled “Thin Ice,” scheduled to air on April 29 and directed by Bill Anderson.
