Investing.com quoted the dollar at ¥158.46 against the yen on Oct. 19, above a ¥158.30 resistance level in a United Overseas Bank (UOB) outlook reported by FXStreet, indicating a weaker yen.
The quote, recorded at 2:09 p.m. ET (18:09 UTC), remained within the ¥157.50–¥159.05 range FXStreet attributed to UOB strategists for the following one to three weeks. A higher dollar-yen rate means each dollar buys more yen.
FXStreet’s Oct. 19 report said strategists Quek Ser Leang and Lee Sue Ann of UOB saw a possible test of ¥157.50 that day. They considered a clear break below that level unlikely. The later quote was above the ¥158.30 resistance level cited in the report, but it did not exceed the wider reported range.
Earlier on Oct. 19, the Bank of Japan recorded the dollar at ¥158.16–¥158.18 at 4 a.m. ET (08:00 UTC). Its published range for that day’s observations was ¥157.71–¥158.18. The Investing.com quote was recorded later.
