President Donald Trump recently delivered the annual State of the Union address. However, many noticed his manner of speaking at one point through his speech.
Politicalflare reports that the State of the Union address delivered by Trump was met with resounding cheers from the Republican lawmakers. After being introduced by Nancy Pelosi, the Republican members of Congress cheered “Four more years!” as Trump went up on the podium. Halfway through the address, many noticed that Trump was already slurring his words, even basic words such as “sanctuary.” Many who were watching the address pointed it out on Twitter.
One commenter said, “Someone forgot to use their denture cream before taking the stage this morning” while another commenter tweeted that Trump slurs more words than they do, and they were already drunk. One other commenter then tweeted that the President did not deliver his address very well and hoped that his speechwriters did not give him too long an address as he may “falter.”
During the address, Trump presented conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom. First Lady Melania Trump was also there to present the award to Limbaugh, who recently revealed his cancer diagnosis.
Unsurprisingly, many Democratic officials were not pleased with the address, labeling it a “Trump rally” as well as “a disgrace.” Democrat Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut even tweeted that he should not have attended. “It was a reelection pep rally from beginning to end, filled with political stunts and verifiable lie after verifiable lie,” tweeted Murphy.
The New York Times reports that some of the points made by Donald Trump during the address were not as accurate as he made them out to be. One of the points that were not as accurate was regarding Social Security and Medicare, which appeared to be misleading, as Trump reportedly failed on strengthening both systems, which were in part, the result of his tax law. His tax law made the Treasury Department collect fewer taxes, and thus investing less money into both trusts. In April 2019 alone, the funds for Medicare was predicted to deplete by 2026, which is three years earlier than what was predicted back in 2017.
