Patrick Witt, executive director of the White House Crypto Council, left after his temporary assignment expired; The Block said the White House did not answer its question about a successor for him.

In an Oct. 14 post, journalist Eleanor Terrett relayed a White House official’s confirmation that Witt’s “detail to the White House Crypto Council has expired.” The Office of Personnel Management describes a detail as a temporary assignment to another position for a specified period.

Witt held the executive director title at the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets in August 2026, according to a transcript of a presidential event. The Block reported that he helped guide Senate negotiations on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025, known as the CLARITY Act.

On Sept. 15, the Senate rejected cloture on a motion to proceed to H.R. 3633 by 49 votes to 50. The vote concerned whether to end debate on a motion to take up the bill, not final passage.
