A Federal Reserve decision due Wednesday set the focus for U.S. investors Tuesday, when Dow futures inched higher but contracts for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 slipped.
FXStreet reported that at 4:21 a.m. EDT (08:21 UTC), Dow futures were up 0.05% near 52,580. S&P 500 futures were down 0.11% around 7,710, while Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 0.30% near 29,350. The Associated Press (AP) separately described the Dow as little changed and S&P futures as 0.1% lower in early European trading.
Wall Street’s three major indexes finished Monday higher. AP put the Dow’s gain at 0.3%, the Nasdaq Composite’s at 0.8% and the S&P 500’s at 0.7%. Nvidia added 2.4% and gave the market its largest boost of the day, AP reported. Investors were also weighing borrowing costs tied to data-center expansion and AI chip purchases, the outlet said.
At its Sept. 16 meeting, the Federal Reserve raised its target interest rate range by 0.25 percentage point to 3.75%–4%, citing elevated inflation.
The Federal Reserve’s two-day meeting is scheduled to conclude Wednesday, Oct. 28. Its calendar lists a statement at 2 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC), followed by a press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET (18:30 UTC).
