At one point Thursday, the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.4%; it closed up 0.1%, while the Dow led the advance with a 1.1% gain.

The Dow's official index history recorded a 556.21-point gain to 52,177.69. The S&P 500's index history showed a rise of 25.12 points, or 0.3%, to 7,744.06. Nasdaq's index history recorded a 20.16-point advance, or 0.1%, to 26,713.03 for the Composite.

During trading, the Nasdaq was still 0.4% below its previous close at one point, even as the S&P 500 crossed into positive territory and the Dow approached a 1% gain. Micron pared an earlier decline of more than 6%, nearing unchanged later in the session.

The Associated Press cited firmer technology shares and corporate earnings as factors behind the late advance. The session's reversal followed the Nasdaq rebound described in an earlier EconoTimes account of its climb from a session low.
