One of the biggest hanging questions in the anime industry today is when “Dragon Ball Super” will return. Many fans are hoping it would happen sometime in 2019. But, so far, there is no clear indication that it is going to be the case.
The latest installment centered on the Universe Saga completed its 55-episode run in Japan in March 2018. A long hiatus was made much clearer when it was confirmed that the first season of “GeGeGe no Kitaro (2018)” will be taking the DBS time slot in the Japanese network Fuji TV.
Both series are produced by Toei Animation, and it was later reported that the current installment of “GeGeGe no Kitaro” — that premiered in April 2018 — will have more than 50 episodes. That did not sit well with many “Dragon Ball Super” fans as it likely meant “Dragon Ball Super” will not return for a long time.
Fast forward to last May, some fans are still airing their disappointment online, seemingly arguing that “GeGeGe no Kitaro” is not worthy of replacing “Dragon Ball Super” in the same TV timeslot. But well-known anime insider YonkouProductions rebuked such sentiment before implying that “Dragon Ball Super” will return in July.
“GeGeGe no Kitaro” is reportedly going to wrap up its first season with 64 episodes on July 7. That could mean “Dragon Ball Super” is returning soon after that. However, it is essential to note that if that is the actual plan, Toei Animation and TV networks affiliated in distributing the series should have made the proper announcement by now. But since no teasers or official word has been released with regards to “Dragon Ball Super’s” return, it is better not to hope for its return this July just yet.
Earlier this year, it was also reported that “GeGeGe no Kitaro” has been renewed for a second season. And if it is not vacating its current Japan TV timeslot, that just makes the return of “Dragon Ball Super” in 2019 even more impossible to happen.
