Dunkin' Fans Outraged Over 'Terrible' New Lids—'Spills Everywhere, It’s a Disaster!' Say Traumatized Customers

Dunkin’ customers are in an uproar over the coffee giant’s recent switch to new lids for its iced beverages. The new design has triggered a flood of complaints from loyal fans, many of whom claim the lids are prone to spills, breaks, and general frustration. The backlash is mounting on social media, where many patrons are sharing their “traumatizing” experiences with the new lids, which have reportedly been gradually rolled out across locations over recent months.

In the Dunkin’ Reddit community, a thread dedicated to the controversial lids has been buzzing with unhappy customers since the rollout began in July. One customer posted that the new lids are “awful,” complaining that they fall off easily, break frequently, and don’t stay in place, even with the slightest movement. “I had my cold brew on my side cup holder and the entire lid popped off, spilling coffee everywhere,” one user lamented. “I’m literally still traumatized from it.”

Many Dunkin' fans are reminiscing about the old lids, which, according to loyalists, stayed secure and didn’t cause nearly as many mishaps. Some customers noted that, initially, the new lids were only being used for drinks with cold foam or when stores ran out of the traditional lids. However, reports now suggest that the switch is permanent, much to the dismay of Dunkin' devotees.

The main point of contention seems to be the structure of the new lids, which are described as “just an open hole” without a tab or seal. This design has led to complaints of leaks and accidental spills. Some customers also find the lids difficult to attach to the cup, with one user noting that trying to press the flimsy lid onto the cup often results in “the cup caving in and the drink spilling everywhere.”

For customers who don’t like using straws, the new lid design was initially seen as a potential win. However, many quickly pointed out that the lids fail to serve their primary function: keeping the beverage contained. “I don’t want to use straws either,” wrote one irritated customer, “but I need a lid that actually works.”

One of the most vocal complaints came from a customer who described their experience attempting to secure the lid as nothing short of a disaster. “The cup caves in while I’m trying to put on the lid, and suddenly my coffee is everywhere,” they explained. Some even noted that the new hot lids have sharp, jagged edges, with one customer reporting a cut lip from the poor-quality material.

As complaints continue to pour in, fans are calling on Dunkin’ to address the issue. The coffee chain has yet to respond to the backlash, though media outlets, including Delish, have reached out for comment. Customers are holding out hope for a possible redesign or, better yet, a return to the old lids.

While Dunkin' has made headlines in recent years for its successful rebranding and popular seasonal drinks, this lid controversy is quickly becoming a stain on the brand’s reputation. As fans grow more vocal, Dunkin’ may have to respond sooner rather than later to keep its customer base happy—and dry.
