‘Dunkirk’ star Cillian Murphy expressed his praise for Harry Style’s performance in what would be his acting debut on a full-feature film saying that the young actor didn’t need acting advice. It was also revealed that the ex-One Directioner was quite popular with everyone on the filming set.
According to RTE, Murphy expressed his admiration for Styles’ acting prowess on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming biographical war film. He said that the 22-year old former member of boy band One Direction doesn’t need acting advice and that he would do well on his own.
When asked if he would give Styles some acting tips, he replied, "It's not my job to give advice to people like that. Chris Nolan cast Harry Styles, and Chris Nolan knows what he's doing. He's not going to cast someone that doesn't have talent. I've hung out with Harry and he's a really cool kid, and I'm sure he'll do fantastically.”
He added, "But no. I hope I'm not in the 'elderly actor giving advice' bracket yet. That would give me a pain in the hole, to be honest."
Styles is set to make his acting debut alongside critically-acclaimed actors Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy, and Mark Rylance. According to Hollywood Life, it seems that Styles has made quite the impression on everyone else on the filming set besides Murphy.
An unnamed source from the film revealed, “Harry is a great great guy and Christopher [Nolan] and everyone on set love his drive and hard work… He really has been doing a unbelievable job and he should definitely keep acting.”
The source continued, “He asks questions and wants to do the best he can and he doesn’t take the job lightly… He is not a primadonna, and really wants to be one of the guys.” It was also revealed that Nolan would most likely recast Styles in more movie projects in the future since the young musician and actor carried professionalism and was very likeable.
Another source revealed that even Rylance had a good working relationship with Styles on the filming set. According to The Hamilton Spectator, the source said, "Mark Rylance really gets on well with Harry. They have been known to enjoy a bottle of wine together some evenings when they aren't filming.”
The source added, “The hair and make-up team love him too because he's very polite. One time he even made the effort to thank the catering department for making what he called 'fantastic food'. He's such a gent."
‘Dunkirk’ is an upcoming historical action and drama film scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on July 21, 2017. It is directed, written and co-produced by Christopher Nolan of ‘The Dark Knight’ fame. It is produced by Warner Bros., Syncopy, and RatPac-Dune Entertainment and distributed by Warner Bros.
