The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has withdrawn local reorganization decisions announced in July for nine English areas, leaving 15 areas awaiting minded-to decisions in the review.

The Oct. 29 letters address those nine areas, four cases where decisions were withdrawn in September 2026, and two still undecided: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, and West Sussex. The update added no new minded-to decisions for any of the 15 areas.

Jim McMahon OBE MP, who holds the Local Government, Devolution and Regional Growth portfolio, addressed council leaders in the letters. The ministry said the correspondence gives leaders its latest account of the review process.
