BURBANK, Calif., July 07, 2017 -- LBI Media, the fastest growing, minority owned Spanish-language broadcasting company in the U.S. announced today that its Estrella TV network national news anchor Pedro Ferriz Hijar has been promoted to vice president of national news effective immediately.
Ferriz, a respected news veteran who took over Estrella TV’s Cierre de Edición newscast in February 2016, has been promoted to lead and manage the network’s national news team. In this new role, Ferriz Hijar will be responsible for the strategic planning and management of the network’s news division, including managing content and production for all news-related programming, which includes two national newscasts. He will continue his role as the network’s national anchorman for Cierre de Edición, as he concurrently takes over the role of vice president of national news for Estrella TV.
“I am excited for this new opportunity to lead Estrella TV’s national news division and honored to continue working for a network that values fair, balanced and objective journalism. As our Latino community continues to face threats from an administration adamant in its pursuit of alternative facts, now more than ever, Spanish-language newscasters have the responsibility to inform, educate and support the communities we serve,” stated Ferriz Hijar.
A seasoned journalist, Ferriz Hijar has extensive experience and a successful track record covering politics, government and economic issues across Mexico at some of the country's leading media outlets including Efeckto Noticias, Poder Mexico Radio, Poder America, Hola TV, TV Mexiquense and other influential news media outlets. Since taking over Estrella TV’s Cierre de Edición, the newscast has experienced a significant ratings growth nationally, consistently beating its Spanish programming competition during its late evening time slot.
