The Oct. 21 snapshot valued assets in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols at $92.83 billion. Ethereum represented $51.076 billion of that amount, more than half, while decentralized exchanges (DEXs) recorded $232.226 billion in spot trades over the 30 days.

Base's total was $6.366 billion, and Solana's was $6.036 billion. Uniswap recorded $71.136 billion in DEX spot turnover during the same window.

Total value locked (TVL) is a point-in-time dollar valuation of assets held in protocol smart contracts. Changes in asset prices can shift this estimate even when deposits and withdrawals do not change, so the Oct. 21 reading alone does not show net deposits during the previous month. An earlier explanation of why TVL and net deposits can diverge discusses this distinction.

DEX volume totals trades over a period, and the same assets may be counted again when traded more than once. The $232.226 billion figure therefore represents turnover, not protocol deposits or the value of assets remaining there at period-end.

Tracked crypto hacks reached $2.345 billion across 305 incidents between the start of 2026 and Oct. 21. The tally covers exchange and infrastructure incidents as well as DeFi cases, so it cannot provide a DeFi-only loss figure. It is reported without deductions for funds later recovered or frozen.
