Euro area’s production in construction sector drops sequentially in May

Euro area’s production in the construction sector dropped sequentially in May. Production in the construction sector dropped 0.7 percent seasonally adjusted, showed the first estimates from Eurostat. On a year-on-year basis, production in construction rose 2.6 percent.

The sequential drop of 0.7 percent in production in construction in the currency bloc was driven by civil engineering that dropped 0.9 percent and building construction that fell 0.6 percent. Amongst the member states, the largest drops in production in construction were seen in Slovenia and Slovakia, whereas the highest rise was seen in Italy.

The year-on-year rise of 2.6 percent in construction was driven by civil engineering and building construction that rose 2.8 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. Amongst the member states decreases were seen in Spain and Slovakia.
