Facebook is planning to expand live video streaming feature to all users. The feature was previously available to only verified journalists, celebrities and public figures.
The social networking giant on Thursday announced that it is beginning to test the ability to share live video on Facebook, starting with a small percentage of people in the US on iPhones. To share live video, users need to select the ‘Live Video’ icon. They can add a description for the video and choose with whom they want to share it before going live.
“Live lets you show the people you care about what you’re seeing in real time — whether you’re visiting a new place, cooking your favorite recipe, or just want to share some thoughts”, said Facebook Product Managers Vadim Lavrusik and Thai Tran. “No matter where you are, Live lets you bring your friends and family right next to you to experience what’s happening together”.
Facebook also announced a new way of sharing photographs by grouping photos and videos that were taken together into a scrolling, moving collage. When users tap on Photo, they will be able to view their camera roll organized into collages. Users can edit their collage by adding, removing or re-arranging the photos and videos that they want to include. Collages will begin rolling out on iPhone today and will be available on Android early next year.
“Now you can bring the photos and videos you share on Facebook to life with live video and collages, to help friends and family feel like they’re in the moment with you”, the news release read.
