“Far Cry 6” was one of the games that were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the new release date might happen earlier than most fans expect as an online store currently lists the game with a launch in the first half of the year.
Online retailer lists ‘Far Cry 6’ release date in April
A Reddit user spotted that the product page for “Far Cry 6” on the Dutch retail website Proxis includes a specific release date on April 30. That would mean the game’s new launch schedule would only fall a couple of months behind its original release date.
It can be recalled that “Far Cry 6” was initially planned to be released on Feb. 18 this year. However, Ubisoft announced last October that its developers need more time as the timeline had also been adjusted due to the pandemic.
Ubisoft has yet to provide a specific release schedule for “Far Cry 6.” But it also promised during an earnings call last October that the game will be out within its 2021-2022 fiscal year, along with another delayed game, “Rainbow Six Quarantine.” That period covers April 1 through March 31, 2022, but it should be noted that an official Ubisoft page indicates the delay will not be extended to next year. “Join the Guerrilla to free Yara in 2021,” Ubisoft Support writes.
Considering the confirmed release window for “Far Cry 6,” Proxis’s listed April 30 launch date appears plausible. However, there is also a chance that April 30 is just a placeholder, so fans should still take this with a grain of salt.
‘Far Cry 6’ story: What to expect
Despite the game being delayed for an unknown amount of time, there are enough details confirmed about its story and gameplay enough for fans to build expectations. “Far Cry 6” also boasts a star-studded cast with actor Giancarlo Esposito portraying one of the main characters named Antón "El Presidente" Castillo. Antón is a fascist dictator who could be removed from his position as civil unrest continues in the fictional island called Yara.
Also important to the “Far Cry 6” plot is the president’s son named Diego, played by “Coco” star Anthony Gonzalez. Players will enter the game as a guerilla fighter named Dani Rojas in “Far Cry 6,” who can be a male or female character.
