News about “Fast and the Furious 9” is scarce at the moment as production has yet to begin. Even the actual cast for the upcoming film is unknown other Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Ludracis likely reprising their role.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham are expected to not make an appearance as both are starring in a spin-off movie based on the franchise. While this isn’t confirmed information, it’s been heavily speculated that the reason Johnson isn’t in “Fast and the Furious 9” is due to his previous spat with Diesel. Until now, details are still vague what exactly caused this rift, Digital Spy reported.
But it looks like the conflict has been resolved if Johnson and Diesel’s previous statements are anything to go by. "As of now, we're not in [Fast and the Furious 9] because they're getting ready to start shooting. But who knows with ‘Fast 10’ down the road, you never know," Johnson said when asked about his future on the franchise.
After a few cryptic back and forth on social media, Diesel finally released a Facebook video where he praised Johnson for being a factor for the franchise’s success over the years. He revealed that Johnson’s role was originally written for Tommy Lee Jones but was given to the former wrestler after a young fan requested Diesel to work together with The Rock. As for what fans can expect in “Fast and the Furious 9,” it’s difficult to speculate right now since everything is being kept under wraps.
There’s also the fact that the ridiculousness of the film might take on new heights as it’s presumed that the gang will be in space for the ninth film. Fortunately, the information drought surrounding “Fast and the Furious 9” is expected to end soon as filming will start somewhere between May and June. If all goes well, the next entry for the franchise will be following their roadmap and ultimately hit theaters on May 22, 2020.
