AutoZone CFO Jamere Jackson will join FedEx as executive vice president and chief financial officer on Nov. 30, five days after leaving the retailer, which is searching for a successor.

AutoZone said Jackson’s resignation takes effect Nov. 25, 2026. He notified the company on Oct. 20, according to a Form 8-K dated Oct. 26, and is leaving for a professional opportunity outside the automotive aftermarket. The filing says the move is unrelated to AutoZone’s financial or operating results and does not stem from disputes involving its financial, operational, accounting or reporting policies or practices.

Beginning Nov. 25, AutoZone Vice President and Controller J. Scott Murphy will serve as the company’s principal financial officer and principal accounting officer. The retailer said the arrangement will remain in place during its external search. It has not announced a permanent replacement or set a deadline for the search.

FedEx said Jackson will succeed interim CFO Claude Russ, who has held the role since June 1. Jackson’s appointment takes effect Nov. 30, leaving five days between the companies’ announced dates.

Jackson became AutoZone’s CFO in January 2021 after the company named him CFO-elect in August 2020. Before joining the retailer, he was chief financial officer at Hertz Global Holdings and Nielsen Holdings and held finance leadership roles at General Electric.

AutoZone reported 8,031 stores across the United States, Mexico and Brazil as of Aug. 29, 2026. That total included 6,863 locations in the United States, 1,001 in Mexico and 167 in Brazil.

AutoZone President and CEO Phil Daniele said the finance and accounting team would continue its work through the leadership change. Daniele said management believed AutoZone was on track for a solid fiscal 2027. Daniele thanked Jackson, saying, “I appreciate his many contributions to our success.”
