“Final Fantasy XV” is the highly anticipated JRPG title that’s currently exclusive to the “PlayStation 4.” With fans spanning multiple platforms, however, it was only a matter of time before someone brought up the prospect of a PC port. Hajime Tabata, the game’s co-director did not confirm that one is already in the works. However, he did say that doing so would take their development team a year.
PC ports for Final Fantasy games are not an uncommon occurrence in the least, as titles like “FF9” and “FF10” have made their way to personal computers via official channels for years. This has given PC gamers a taste of what they have been missing as well as some former fans who have moved on from consoles the opportunity to experience nostalgia about the franchise.
As Tabata told the Spanish media company Vida Extra, however, doing this with “FF15” would force them to create an even better version than what they made for the console. This would understandably take time, thus the year-long timeline.
“On that hypothesis, not talking about something real, just an idea, if we worked on a PC version what I have very clear is that we would work to provide a better version of what we have now on consoles,” Tabata said as translated by WCCFTech. “We could say that something like this would take us more than a year. We should work to adapt the engine, which is very laborious, and from there to develop its course.”
As Attack Of The Fanboy notes, the sheer amount of support, backstory building, and marketing that Square Enix has been funneling into “FF15” has been staggering. This has built up the hype surrounding the game to a rising crescendo.
On a side note, it would seem that a “PS4 VR” version of the game might be possible down the road. Tabata explained that they never made the title for the “PS4 Pro,” but this doesn’t mean that it’s incompatible.
