Square Enix made an appearance at the recent Twitchcon, where it unveiled one of “Final Fantasy XV’s” most diabolical spells. During the footage, game protagonist “Prince Noctis” attacks enemies with a spell called “Death.” As the name suggests, it basically kills anything it hits, which is not exactly all that unusual for this franchise. However, the way it kills can leave some people squeamish as it basically drains the life out of foes and literally turns them into a bloody pulp.
Now, “Death” is an attack magic that has made an appearance in several Final Fantasy games, taking on many forms in the process. However, as Kotaku puts it, using the spell basically means that the player is done messing around. It isn’t game breaking by any means, but casting it can come off as a little heavy-handed as opposed to using spells like “Blizzard” or “Ultima.”
Then again, watching enemies become smaller and smaller as players continuously use the spell until they finally burst into specks of red can also be incredibly satisfying. This makes “Death” by far one of the coolest looking features of the fifteenth installment of the legendary franchise.
Now, based on what the video shows, it seems the only one who can use the spell is “Noctis.” Casting “Death” requires players to equip the “Ring of Lucii” accessory, Gamespot notes. As anyone who watched the movie “Kingsglaive” will know, the ring can only be worn by one with the blood of kings. Few other characters in the game can make that claim.
Square also explains that “Death” get stronger the more it is used. It basically stacks, thus allowing for increasing consecutive damage.
"Death drains the HP of enemies," Square Enix explains. "The longer you use the spell, the more your enemy will physically deteriorate."
The video also showcases a new type of enemy called “Bandersnatch,” which is built like a tank. It looks like fans will have even more reasons to be excited for “FFXV’s” November 29 release.
