Financial Times Reports OpenAI Seeks $20 Billion at $1.25 Trillion Valuation

The reported goal is down from an earlier target of $30 billion or more. OpenAI's completed March round drew $122 billion in investor commitments.

The Financial Times reported Friday that OpenAI is seeking about $20 billion at a $1.25 trillion valuation, $10 billion below an earlier reported target for a round the company has not publicly confirmed.

The $20 billion figure is a proposed fundraising goal, not an amount OpenAI has announced raising. Bloomberg's Sept. 29 account put the previous target at $30 billion or more and the company's valuation near $1.4 trillion, before accounting for new funding.

OpenAI said March 31 that investors committed $122 billion to its completed financing round. The company placed its post-financing valuation at $852 billion. Those figures describe a completed round, separate from the proposed financing in the Financial Times report.

Reuters previously reported that OpenAI was seeking investor commitments before Anthropic's expected mid-November public debut, with the companies drawing from a similar investor base. That report did not explain the newer $20 billion goal.

The latest report follows EconoTimes' earlier coverage of OpenAI funding talks and valuation signals.
