A week ago, the “Fortnite” default mode removed players’ ability to build structures as part of the Chapter 3 Season 2 update. Now, Epic Games announced that a separate Zero Build mode is being added to the battle royale game for good.
The new game mode officially called Zero Build retains most of the mechanics of the game. But as the name suggests, players can no longer build their makeshift covers as they attempt to achieve Victory Royale. The new “Fortnite” mode is included in the version 20.00 update that went live on Tuesday, March 29.
Once players have updated the game, they will find the Zero Build mode on the Discover page. It will be available in Solo, Duos, Trios, and Squads playlists, Epic Games said in an announcement post.
The addition of Zero Build mode should not be a surprise, though. Shortly after Chapter 3 Season 2 went live, leaks emerged online with images that suggested the no-build gameplay was going to be introduced as a permanent feature.
The Zero Build will be similar to how Epic previously implemented that no-build rule in default mode. “Fortnite” players should expect to run across the island with much less cover, but the Zero Build will also feature the Overshield. Epic describes it as the players’ “first line of defense” in the new mode. Once they take hits, the damage will affect the Overshield first before their regular Shield and Health stats.
“Fortnite” developers previously explained that Overshield stats will recharge even if it is maxed out. However, it will only start recharging when players do not take damage for 6.5 seconds. “Zip up Ascenders to access Blimps or use Mantling to get the high-ground over your opponents,” Epic added in this week’s announcement.
As part of the v20.00 update, “Fortnite” developers also added the Anvil Rocket Launcher that works best for targeting vehicles. It is a rare item, but Epic says players can find it from regular, Rare, Seven Supply, and IO chests. It will also show up in Supply Drops or when fighting sharks. Epic will also unvault the MK-Seven Assault Rifle or Combat Assault Rifle. They will be available from Saturday, April 2, at 4 AM ET to Monday, April 4, 2022, at 11:59 PM ET.
