Following the recent data breach at TalkTalk, the phone and broadband provider with over four million UK customers, police have now made a fourth arrest in the case, BBC reported. The cyber attack was feared to have compromised sensitive information of users.
Dido Harding, chief executive of TalkTalk, told BBC at the time that all 4m UK customers could 'potentially be affected'.
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy, on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act offences after officers searched an address in Norwich. Another 16-year old from London was also arrested and bailed, along with a 15-year-old boy in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and a man, 20, from Staffordshire.
Last Friday, TalkTalk released a new update on the case and said while the investigation continues, the extent of data accessed is “significantly” less than originally thought. It confirmed that less than 21,000 unique bank account numbers and sort codes and less than 28,000 obscured credit and debit card details (as previously stated, the middle 6 digits had been removed) were accessed in the attack.
It further said that the credit and debit card details cannot be used for financial transactions and has shared the affected bank details with the major UK banks so they can take their “usual actions” to protect customers’ accounts.
