No explosives have been found after a week of hoax threats to European commercial flights, as French prosecutors investigate who sent the messages and whether foreign powers may have been involved.

The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an inquiry into the emails, which targeted dozens of commercial flights during the past week. The office told AFP investigators are tracing their origin and checking for possible links abroad. Some threatened flights crossed French airspace.

Ireland’s government said Friday that bomb claims sent to Irish media likely formed part of a disruption effort that also included airline threats. Authorities have not identified the people responsible.

Some emails bore the words “fighters of the Male State,” a name associated with a radical misogynist group in Russia. AFP has not confirmed a link between the group and the threats. Group founder Vladislav Pozdniakov denied involvement on social media Friday and said the movement had ended in 2021.

France 24’s earlier count stood at 27 or more flights affected through Nov. 5, as EconoTimes noted in its coverage of the tally.
