Militants' well-coordinated attack on French soil, which killed 130 and injured 350 people in Paris has brought the West (US and European allies) an East (Russia) closer than ever since rift in relation over turmoil in Ukraine.
In last year's G20 meeting Russia President Vladimir Putin was sidelined over his annexation of Crimea from Ukraine but this year he is just the center of attraction, with everyone seeking an audience with him.
Russia joined bombing raid in Syria and has been pursuing it individually, waging war on terrorism. However, lot many accuse that Russia has been hitting rebel positions, who are fighting against Russian ally, incumbent Syrian president Bashar-Al-Assad, instead of hitting Islamic State militants.
Over time, West has realized that military power like Russia, which has much stronger ties with China than West, can't be ignored be it peace in Syria, bond restructuring of Ukraine or nuclear deal with Iran.
Thanks to Paris attack, serious possibility of a grand coalition which includes Russia is looking a possibility. French president, Francois Hollande is set to meet Mr. Putin in Moscow next week.
There are still disagreements, be it future of Syria or Crimea or Ukraine, but this can't be ignored that Russia and West hasn't been this close in very long time.
Opportunity like this, shouldn't be ignored and need to be directed towards further thawing the chill in relations.
