A magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in the Vanuatu Islands late Tuesday, Oct. 27, and the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) assigned a green rating indicating a low expected humanitarian impact.

GDACS places the quake at a depth of 10 kilometers, with coordinates of 13.9312 degrees south and 165.446 degrees east. The record lists us7000ttlm as the NEIC ID and gives the event time as 10:21 p.m. ET Tuesday, Oct. 27 (02:21 UTC Wednesday, Oct. 28).

The green rating corresponds to a low expected humanitarian impact. The estimate considers the tremor’s strength and the risks people in the area may face. GDACS cautions that its information is indicative and decision-makers should consult other sources.

GDACS brings disaster managers together with the United Nations and European Commission for coordination during the early phase of sudden emergencies. A separate magnitude 5.8 quake in Vanuatu also received a green GDACS rating on Oct. 24, according to EconoTimes’ earlier report on the event.
