‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Spoilers, Updates: Meera Actress Ellie Kendrick Addresses Possible Jon Snow Twins Theory; HBO Teases Possible Prequel Series

Kit Harington plays Jon Snow on HBO's 'Game of Thrones'

‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 fan theories suggested that Jon Snow may have a long-lost twin sister. Actress Ellie Kendrick, who plays Meera Reed in the series, addressed the rumors of Jon and Meera being possible siblings. Meanwhile, HBO teased that a possible prequel to the series may be in the works.

Among the many speculation and fan theories for the much anticipated seventh season of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’, one of the wildest ones to date would have to be that Jon Snow has a twin sister. It was speculated that Kit Harington’s newly appointed king of the North may have a sibling he doesn’t know about. Ellie Kendrick, who plays Meera Reed, addressed rumors that her character may be Jon Snow’s long-lost twin sister.

In the original novels authored by George R. R. Martin, readers are led to believe that Ned Stark and Meera’s father Howland Reed are the only survivors from the Tower of Joy. Following the death of his sister Lyanna Stark, Ned took Jon as his own while keeping the child’s identity a secret. The two, who were supposedly good friends, never saw each other again following the Tower of Joy incident.

Should the twin theory prove accurate, Reed may also have taken Jon’s twin sister and raised her as his own. During an interview with Huffington Post, Kendrick admitted that the theory could be a possibility. She said, “’Game of Thrones’ always surprises us. I’m always surprised! I never have any idea of what’s going to happen next. I never rule anything out.”

She addressed season 6’s Tower of Joy scene saying, “It seems quite conclusive in terms of Jon’s parentage. I don’t know. We’ve still never really seen where Jojen and Meera [Reed] have come from. We know a little tiny bit about her father. We don’t know anything about her mother, really. So yeah, I’m excited to find out who her parents are and what the situation is.”

Beyond Jon and Meera’s similar physical traits, it was also revealed that the two characters were of the same age verified through the appendices of Martin’s novels.

Meanwhile, a possible prequel or spin-off for ‘Game of Thrones’ may be in the works at HBO. The network already confirmed “preliminary” talks with Martin for a new series exploring the long history of Westeros. HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys told Entertainment Weekly, “There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn’t point to any one and say, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’”

‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 is scheduled to premiere sometime in mid-2017.
