“Game of Thrones” season 8 will pick up on Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) travel to the North to prepare for the great war against the Night King’s army. However, fans must also not forget that the final season will open with Bran or the Three-Eyed Raven (Isaac Hempstead Wright) already knowing who Jon’s parents are.

For a brief recap, the franchise finally confirmed a long-running theory: Jon is not a bastard son. His parents are Lyanna Stark (Aisling Franciosi) and Rhaegar Targaryen (Wilf Scolding) who officially got married before they died. This means one of the arcs “Game of Thrones” season 8 will explore is the fact that Jon is the true and rightful heir of the Iron Throne.

However, this already complicates things between Jon and Daenerys both as lovers and strong allies. Jon has sworn allegiance to Dany to secure her help (and tons of dragonglass) in fighting the Night King. But “Game of Thrones” season 8 will also pick up to that scene of Jon and Dany’s romantic encounter.

Without spoiling anything about “Game of Thrones” season 8, Clarke and Harington both agree that the truth about Jon’s parents will enormously affect their relationship. “Jon is someone who plays by the book. He cannot lie,” Harington says. “Finding out about Dany would be very hard for him,” Harington said (via TV Insider).

Through the previous seasons, fans saw Dany opt for extreme measures in order to secure the progress she has made in pursuit of the Iron Throne. This determination might just put a target on Jon’s back in “Game of Thrones” season 8. But Clarke admitted, “[Dany] truly loves Jon. Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep.”

Series co-creator D.B. Weiss echoed the actors’ statements about “Game of Thrones” season 8. “From a dramatic standpoint, it makes things interesting, because the story is no longer about who Jon’s parents are. It’s about what happens when Jon finds out,” he explained.

Many fans are likely heavily wondering how the characters can defeat the Night King during winter or what Cersei Lannister’s (Lena Headey) fate would be. But these teasers suggest that Jon and Dany’s changing relationship also makes up for an intriguing plot and might even affect how they win (or lose) the looming war. “Game of Thrones” season 8 premieres in April on HBO.
