Global Geo-political Series: U.S. and South Korea conduct joint bombing drill in response to Pyongyang’s threat

United States have conducted joint mock bombing drills on the skies of South Korea using supersonic B-1B bombers and F-35B stealth fighters in response to threats from North Korea, which earlier this month claimed to have conducted its first hydrogen bomb test. North Korea also test-fired an intermediate range ballistic missile that flew through the airspace of Japan before plunging into the sea. The latest test showed that North Korea has the capability to follow through its threat against the U.S. overseas territory of Guam that is home to large U.S. military and air force base.

In response to North Korea’s latest tests, United Nation’s Security Council (UNSC) imposed tougher sanctions against North Korea that bans countries second biggest exports textiles and imposes a cap on North Korea’s imports of refined fuel products and raw crude oil, after imposing new round of sanctions last month which was aimed to cut North Korea’s exports by almost a third.

While the U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that economic warfare against North Korea working, the isolated country has remained defiant. It has vowed to bring its military power in line with the United States and threatened that tougher the sanctions are, faster will be the Nuke developments.
