Global Geopolitical Series: No appeasement for Kurds in Idlib as trilateral summit in Tehran fails

After Russia started bombing Idlib province of Syria, which has the last rebel-held stronghold, ignoring President Donald Trump’s warning against any major attacks as it could lead to a major humanitarian crisis, Iran is indicating no appeasement for Kurds in the region, which reflects the failure of last week’s Tehran summit between Iran, Russia, and Turkey, the so-called- Astana peace group.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said that Iran will not follow a policy of appeasement when it comes to its security issues and the violation of its sovereignty by terrorist elements, referring to a missile strike by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRCG) at a gathering of terrorists in Kurdestan.

Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said the Iranian nation reserves the right to defend itself as Kurdish militants are violating a two-decade-old commitment of not to conduct operations on Iranian soil, under the provocation from the United States. According to Iran, terrorists are acting to create tensions in the Iranian provinces of West Azerbaijan, Kurdestan and Kermanshah.
