Global Geopolitical Series: U.S. extends deadline of metal tariffs on EU and other countries

President Trump has signed a proclamation on Monday that would delay the imposition of metal tariffs (25 percent on all Steel imports and 10 percent on all Aluminum imports) on the European Union, Canada, and Mexico for another 30 days to provide a bit more time for the negotiations with the above-mentioned countries.

The Trump administration has also granted a permeant exemption to South Korea, with which an agreement has already been reached and granted exemptions to Argentina, Australia, and Brazil as agreements were reached in principle.

The metal tariffs, which were first announced in March and triggered widespread criticism finally went live on Tuesday.
