The Google Pixel 4a was announced just a few months after the company released its flagship phone Pixel 4 and 4 XL. Until now, not much is known about the more affordable variant but recent leaks suggest what the phone could look like when it arrives.
The leaks came from OnLeaks and 91Mobiles via supposed renders of the Google Pixel 4a posted on social media, according to TechCrunch. Based on the images, tech enthusiasts were quick to point out some of the differences between upcoming budget phone and Google’s flagships.
The Google Pixel 4a will feature a punch-hole camera at the front. This design trend has been popularized by Samsung but it’s nice to note that Google is finally catching up to the changing taste of consumers.
On the contrary, Google Pixel 4 and the 4 XL have this rather bulky looking top bezel, which is noticeably larger compared to the side and bottom bezels. Some smartphone users do not want this uneven bezel design that they are now saying that the upcoming budget phone looks better. As BGR puts it, the Pixel 4a is a “cheap phone whose design will look a lot better than the Pixel 4.”
In addition, the Pixel 4a will still retain the headphone jack. While Apple has been adamant in removing the jack in its smartphone lineup, Google has been equally insistent in its retention as “a lot of people have headphones,” Now, for buyers who prefer their handsets to have this feature, the upcoming budget phone is something to look forward to.
As the cheaper option, the Pixel 4a is expected to have slightly inferior features and specs compared to the Pixel 4. For instance, it won’t likely feature the 3D Face option for unlocking the phone, considering that it doesn’t have the notch to house the components.
The Pixel 4a’s camera bump appears similar to the flagship. However, it will likely only feature a single camera as opposed to the dual-camera setup of the Pixel 4. Another reasonable expectation is that it will have a slightly less powerful processor to power its system.
Google has not officially announced the Pixel 4a release date yet. However, The Verge wrote that it will likely arrive by May of 2020, which is around the same date that the Pixel 3a arrived last year.
