“Grey's Anatomy” season 15 has yet to air but news about its end is already making the headlines. The show has been around for 13 years, and lead actress Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) thinks it's time to step down.
The series has been renewed for another season, and with this, “Grey's Anatomy” season 15 just broke records and became ABC’s longest-running primetime drama. However, this could be the last season and it will conclude entirely.
With the exception of Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) and Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), the rest of the characters are expected to return for “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15. The two characters play major roles so it was a big shock when they left (or were fired) in the previous season.
Incidentally, Pompeo has been dropping hints for fans but of course, they refuse to believe it. Rather, most of them are not taking the hints as suggesting that the show’s finale has finally come and are assuming that it could be something else.
Rumors about “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 being the last run started when Ellen Pompeo herself left cryptic comments in her interviews. For instance, when Us Weekly asked if there are plans to end the medical drama, she replied, “That day is coming soon” and “There is an end and it’s nearing.”
The talented actress added that they are getting there and she and Shonda Rhimes, “Grey’s Anatomy” creator, will make the decision together.
Now, in explaining why “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 could be the end, Ellen shared that she wants to spend more time with her kids and get involved in their lives as they grow older. The 48-year-old actress went on to say that she has an idea of how “Grey’s Anatomy” is going to end but she does not want to spoil it so she is zipping her lips for now.
Likewise, Shonda Rhimes also talked about the show’s final run. Referring to the possible ending date, she told E! News, “Ellen and I have a pact that I'm going to do the show as long as she's going to do the show...If she wants to stop, we're stopping."
Rhimes also said that they will keep the show going as long as Ellen still wants to do it. Her words clearly translate to “If Ellen leaves 'Grey’s Anatomy' then I will end it.”
Now, since the lead actress has already stated she wants to retire and focus on her children, then it only means one thing: “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 could be the last time that fans will get to see the drama again.
“Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 is premiering on ABC on Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.
