The preview for “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 episode 11 is leading fans into thinking that Catherine (Debbie Allen) has a very slim chance of making it through an upcoming surgery. Meanwhile, this life-and-death atmosphere convinces Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) to finally visit Thatcher (Jeff Perry).
Catherine just had an explosive confrontation with Jackson (Jesse Williams) and Richard (James Pickens, Jr.) in this week’s episode. Her son and husband were still upset that Catherine chose to reveal her illness to Koracick (Greg Germann) and Meredith first. But the “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 episode 11 teaser shows that the family is once again on the same page as she prepares for her surgery.
Catherine shares some candid and sweet moments with Jackson and Richard before she goes into surgery. Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Koracick perform the operation but she is not optimistic about the possible outcome. At one point in the “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 episode 11 trailer, Amelia tensely tells Koracick that they should stop the surgery saying, “If we keep going, we cost Catherine her life.”
Amelia sounds pretty sure that pursuing the operation would not do anything for Catherine and would instead kill her. So there are two possibilities in “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 episode 11: the surgery continues per Catherine’s wishes or they stop at a certain point and Catherine lives with a terminal case of cancer. If they continue the operation, there is still no telling whether Catherine survives or not.
Meredith, on the other hand, will have a mini break from the love triangle arc as she goes to see his father in “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 episode 11. Richard was the first one to learn about Thatcher's acute myeloid leukemia diagnosis in season 15. Upon hearing the news, Meredith debated whether to visit him or not. But she ultimately decided not to go. She recalled how he decided not to be a part of their lives even after she donated part of her liver to Thatcher.
However, Richard convinces Meredith to change her decision. And, possibly, seeing someone close to her go through a life-and-death bout with cancer also helps Meredith to forget her Thatcher's long list of shortcomings and reconnect with him before it’s too late. “Grey’s Anatomy” season 15 episode 11 will air on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
