“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 will be returning in the fall and fans can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next. The recent finale took some pretty big swings regarding cliffhangers, opening up multiple possibilities where the story will branch out.
While there are several stories that “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 will need to tidy up, the biggest of them is arguably Jackson’s (Jesse Williams) fate. The last time that fans saw the character was when he entered the fog where a pile-up has occurred.
It’s still unclear how Jackson will emerge from his heroic act in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 since even the writers themselves are still undecided what to do with this massive cliffhanger. Show writer Krista Vernoff said that they intentionally left that scene open-ended to create discussions among fans.
"It was a creative decision. It was a cliffhanger. I want people to come back [in the fall] and talk all summer and wonder what happens to him. We have not mapped it out,” Vernoff told THR. It will be interesting to see how this cliffhanger will affect Jackson and “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 as a whole since the writers could choose some pretty dark fate for the de facto chairman.
As for when the decision will go down, Vernoff said that the writers would be meeting up on June 3 to discuss the upcoming installment. Apart from Jackson’s storyline, they’ll also be talking about Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and what they’re going to do with her plot now that she has landed in hot water. With DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) now in prison and Meredith finally confessing her love to him, the writers have several juicy avenues to explore in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16.
Regarding its theme, Vernoff said that they’re also undecided on this front as well. The previous installment was billed as the “Season of Love” and “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 could see the polar opposite of that theme. Hopefully, the pre-production and filming of the upcoming entry wouldn’t encounter huge complications as literally millions of fans are itching to know how all these cliffhangers will conclude.
