“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 is rumored to have one of its previous stars return to the spotlight. The star in question is Katherine Heigl, the actress who played Dr. Izzie Stevens.
Heigl is one of the biggest names of the show years ago, but due to disagreements that occurred between her and show creator Shonda Rhimes, she left the medical drama. Now, it appears that the possibility of her returning for “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 is still on the table as hinted by Heigl herself.
“I don't know if I would or if I wouldn't,” Heigl told ET. “I almost feel like that would almost be distracting again to what they've done with that show in the seven years since I left... and what that's become and what it is to the fans now.” Stevens returning on “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 will create all sorts of drama since she’s the ex-wife of Dr. Alex Karev.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 might intensify Jo’s hardships
And as we all know, Alex’s wife, Jo, is currently battling her own demons after learning the dark truth about her conception. If Stevens return, Jo’s arduous journey will become even more difficult as she’ll not only contend with her own doubts but would also worry about her marriage as well. But while Jo might not be too keen in Stevens’ return, Camilla Luddington – the actress playing the character – is giddy at the possibility. Luddington’s excitement stems from the drama that the reunion will bring, adding more logs to the already fiery “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 might take on a heartbreaking theme
The upcoming installment will be addressing multiple cliffhangers, with Meridith (Ellen Pompeo) the biggest one. Due to Mer’s burning desire to help an immigrant family, she committed insurance fraud that got DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) incarcerated after taking the fall. Meanwhile, Tom (Greg Germann) is set to have his heart dash into the wall since Teddy (Kim Raver) openly admitted that she’s still harboring strong feelings for Owen (Kevin McKidd). So if Heigl makes a surprise return in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16, then all of the aforementioned drama will be intensified further.
It’s for this reason that the next entry is speculated to take on a heartbreaking theme, especially with the fifth installment billed as the “Season of Love.” However, showrunner Krista Vernoff admitted that they’re still undecided about the installment’s overall theme as the writers are still plotting how to tie all the loose threads that they’ve unraveled in the previous release. And speaking of release, “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 16 will be returning on Sept. 26, so mark your calendars and ready your hearts for this is going to be one rollercoaster ride.
