Hamed Mirzaei says a March 9, 2026, airstrike on his family’s home in Tehran’s Resalat neighborhood killed 12 relatives, including his wife and parents; Amnesty International later reported a wider civilian toll.
Al Jazeera published Mirzaei’s first-person account on Oct. 30. He said he was minutes from home when the explosions began. He described a property built by his grandfather and father’s uncle, with apartments shared among relatives. Mirzaei said his wife, Mohadeseh, was 26 and that they had been planning to have a child. He placed the strike at about 7 a.m. ET (11:00 UTC), or 2:30 p.m. in Tehran; Amnesty’s investigation gives a similar local-time estimate. “I feel as though my life is buried here,” he wrote, adding that he continues to return to the ruins.
Independent Persian also reported that 12 members of the family died and identified Number 12 as their building.
Amnesty said its investigation found at least 16 civilian deaths across the wider Resalat attack, with dozens injured. Its review of satellite images showed severe damage at four buildings, including Number 12. One witness interviewed by Amnesty named the caretaker and 12 people from a single family among those killed there. The witness’s overall estimate for the building was 13 or more deaths. Tasnim separately reported 16 residents killed at Number 12; the accounts do not establish a single building-level total. Amnesty said its inquiry drew on open-source material, eyewitness accounts, state media and statements from Iranian officials and the Iranian Red Crescent.
Amnesty also reported that airstrikes damaged or destroyed a Basij battalion facility and three nearby buildings, at least one of them residential. Its evidence suggested Number 12 was hit separately from the facility. The group said it could not verify the exact number of strikes or the nature of every building affected.
