“Hawaii Five-0” season 9 is really being hyped up to be an explosive season for fans of the long-running crime procedural. The show's cast and crew have constantly been talking about how the season's premiere episode will be celebrating the show's 50th anniversary by remaking the original “Hawaii Five-0” pilot from the 1970s, “Cocoon.”
News that Steve McGarrett's (Alex O'Loughlin) past romance will be making a splash in “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 has also been public for quite a while. “Mistresses” star Rochelle Aytes's upcoming recurring role as CIA agent Greer, who has a romantic past with McGarrett, was confirmed by “Hawaii Five-0” showrunner Peter M. Lenkov. Lenkov also confirmed that Greer will be the show's big bad for season 9's first few episodes, but it was not until now that more information on how she will be introduced was made public.
TV Line recently released an exclusive sneak peek at “Hawaii Five-0” season 9's premiere episode. The picture, which features McGarrett being interrogated by a man in a purple shirt, is similar to the scene in part 2 of the original “Cocoon” pilot where Jack Lord's original Steve McGarrett is interrogated by Wo Fat (Khigh Dhiegh).
Aside from the props and the actors, one of the primary differences that can be spotted between the original pilot photo and the “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 premiere episode is the presence of a female shoulder behind the reboot photo's purple-shirted man. It seems that Greer will be playing a significant part in Steve McGarret's capture.
It is interesting to note that Lenkov's statement regarding Rochelle Aytes's recurring role mentions her as being antagonistic for the first few episodes of “Hawaii Five-0” season 9. There might be a possibility that Aytes's Greer eventually becomes an ally to the Five-0 or a love interest once again for Steve McGarret if she doesn't get eliminated at the end of her story arc.
Fans who can't wait to get more dirt on Rochelle Aytes's Greer can look forward to the exciting “Cocoon” remake airing as “Hawaii Five-0” season 9's premiere episode on Sept. 28.
