Beloved detective duo Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Daniel Williams (Scott Caan) is back for “Hawaii Five-0” Season 9. And this time it seems O’Loughlin will be taking on multiple roles.
CarterMatt reported that Alex O’Loughlin is slated to direct an episode for the show’s ninth installment. The news has been confirmed by executive producer Peter M. Lenkov but he didn’t disclose how many episodes O’Loughlin will spearhead in “Hawaii Five-0” Season 9.
It’s almost always good news for a show if one of its leading stars is directing an episode or two as this indicates how committed an actor is to making a season great. For instance, if an episode of “Hawaii Five-0” Season 9 focuses on the development of a character, then an actor can bring in more depth to the story as they’re interacting with that character directly.
Put simply, the actor/director immerses themselves more profoundly in the emotional connection they have with a particular character, whether that character is playing a minor or a major role. This is even more apparent if the character that is being developed has a deep relationship with the character of the actor who is set to direct that particular episode. So O’Loughlin overseeing an episode of “Hawaii Five-0” Season 9 will certainly bring in more depth to the show’s storyline.
Actors who direct an episode of their own show aren't uncommon. In fact, some episodes that were handled by a show’s leading star have resulted in high critical acclaim, similar to what Bryan Cranston received when he directed an episode of “Breaking Bad.” While details about what storyline O’Loughlin will spearhead remain unknown, “Hawaii Five-0” Season 9 will certainly be a blast given how involved its cast is in its production.
“Hawaii Five-0” Season 9 will air on Sept. 28 on CBS at 9 p.m ET. Fans of the show are already excited about what’s in store for them in this ninth installment, with most of them wanting to see more of McGarrett and Williams teaming up again.
