Disney has yet to break its silence regarding the possible creation of “High School Musical 4.” This is surprising given that the company has been remaking a lot of its classic films in recent years.
There’s also the fact that “High School Musical 4” is creating a lot of noise online with its fan base the major source for the buzz. Add the factor that the second film of the franchise is Disney Channel’s highest-rated original film of all time and the company’s decision to not take advantage of this becomes more puzzling, Insider reported.
But it seems that the major reason that “High School Musical 4” still hasn’t seen the light of day is the main casts themselves. Ashley Tisdale – who played Sharpay in the trilogy – said that she’s not interested in reprising her role if Disney greenlights another sequel. Part of the reason that the actress is staying away from the potential remake is that her involvement with the franchise made it difficult for her to land other roles.
As such, it’s expected that if Disney decides to make a “High School Musical 4,” it will feature new casts and characters. While there’s no news about which actors have come forward to express their interest in a possible sequel, the characters for the film is supposedly mapped out already, Seventeen reported.
Erin, Derek, and Campbell will apparently form the love triangle that will take center stage in “High School Musical 4.” Meanwhile, Nathalie will act as Erin’s best friend and Tamara will be the film’s version of Sharpay. Of course, with no confirmation from Disney, it’s best to take this news with a grain of salt.
This is especially true since it will be quite the gamble for the company to order “High School Musical 4” without the main cast returning. Indeed, Tisdale said that what really made the franchise shine is the genuine friendship of the casts behind the scenes. With no news from Disney and the cast’s disinterest with the franchise as a whole, it seems that “High School Musical 4” will remain bench in the foreseeable future.
