Despite numerous concept trailers and the fans of the franchise begging Disney to create “High School Musical 4,” the Mouse House hasn’t budged at all. This is surprising given that the company has recreated some of its iconic stories within its vault.
For instance, “Aladdin” has been recently made as a live-action film. Following the announcement, it was received with mix reviews with the negativity leaning on the portrayal of Jafar. There’s no denying that the production cost of “Aladdin” far outweighs the budget that “High School Musical 4” would’ve received. And the sales performance would’ve arguably been the same.
But that is neither here nor there. In lieu of “High School Musical 4,” Disney opted to create a spin-off series of the franchise that features new casts, story, and characters. So far, nothing is known about its plot other than the fact that the story will take place 15 years after the events of the first “High School Musical” movie.
It’s still unclear whether these new faces will star in the fourth installment. Disney will likely choose to build this new story from the ground up for fans to invest in before greenlighting “High School Musical 4” – if the company opts to name the film this way, of course.
Regarding the original casts, it’s unlikely that they’ll be reprising their role for a possible fourth movie. Ashley Tisdale previously said that part of the reason why she isn’t keen on involving herself in “High School Musical 4” is that breaking away from the franchise was tough for her acting career.
“Yeah, it’s totally been challenging. I think people in this business put you in a box and label you for what they think they know of you and what character you have played. Sharpay was such an awesome character, but at the end of the day it was a character; it wasn’t me,” Tisdale said. Meanwhile, Vanessa Hudgens said that she doesn’t want to be in “High School Musical 4” as she’s old enough to be a teacher. And playing a teacher would be difficult for her as she’s still a “teenager at heart,” Business Times reported.
