Texas Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa’s campaign platform would pause approvals for new data centers until lawmakers establish protections for residents, while also ending tax incentives for large facilities.
Neither measure has been implemented. Hinojosa is scheduled to assume office in January, and the proposed pause is tied to lawmakers establishing safeguards.
On Thursday, Nov. 5, Hinojosa said Texas could have a “strong working relationship” with Elon Musk and his companies “on our terms.” She also said the state should “stop what we are doing with data centers” until it finds ways to protect residents.
A Somos PAC-funded ad campaign also framed the Texas governor’s race around affordability and Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s support for data centers, as EconoTimes previously reported. Somos PAC said the ads were not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.
